Dan Munford, Managing Director, Insight Research
Dan Munford is a recognized expert on the European and international convenience and fuel retail markets. He has unrivalled knowledge of and connections into European convenience & fuel retail operators at the highest level. As Managing Director at Insight Research, Dan originated the important NACS relationship that has been an important part of the Insight and NACS international business for more than a decade. He has worked as a consultant on retailer strategy projects at main board level for many years for diverse convenience & fuel retail businesses globally over the last 5 years, ranging from Tesco in the UK to ENEX in Chile. One of Dan’s roles on behalf of NACS is to maintain strong relationship with the key convenience & fuel retailers CEOs in the European market.
Nicholas Scherzer, Director, Insight Research
Nicholas Scherzer is also a recognized expert on the European and international convenience and fuel retail markets. He has worked at Insight for 8 years. Prior to Insight Nicholas spent 12 years in a variety of operational roles with SPAR South Africa, one of the most sophisticated operators of the SPAR brand globally, recently adding the Irish market to their portfolio. Over the past five years Nicholas has led the Insight store visit program, working with over 2,500 retailers and suppliers and visiting upwards of 300 convenience and fuel retail sites in 25 cities, across 5 continents.
Christian Warning, Consultant, Insight Research
Christian Warning, is the NACS Insight representative for German-speaking markets. Warning is a customer-focused and commercially driven senior marketeer with a proven track record in convenience retail. He worked for 13 years for Royal Dutch/Shell in different management functions, including heading Shell’s billion dollar non-fuels retail business in Germany in his early thirties. As a side step outside his oil core business, he developed Germany’s largest c-store franchise chain outside petrol filling stations as a senior manager of Deutsche Bahn/German rail. Warning represents Insight Research’s global convenience retail strategy business with particular reference to advising businesses on entering DACH markets, representing Insight Research in his Hamburg, Germany office.
Joseph Bona, President and Founding Partner, BONA DESIGN LAB
Veteran store designer Joseph Bona is President and Founding Partner of BONA DESIGN LAB which he launched after purchasing the outstanding shares of MoseleyBona Retail in 2016. Joseph brings a global perspective and extensive store design experience across many retail sectors, from convenience and mass market to drug and luxury. His passion and excitement for uncovering and bringing to life real-world solutions that integrate the science of retail with the art of design spans more than 30 years on six continents, providing him a unique perspective on global trends, as well as the practical knowledge of how to adapt and respond to local markets.
During his career, Joseph has directed a wide range of initiatives for such companies as Topaz, PetroChina, MOL, Wawa, Duane Reade, Shinsegae Department Stores and Sak’s Fifth Avenue to name a few. He was previously featured on the Discovery Channel’s Modern Marvel series bringing his expertise on store design to television and, he has been a frequent speaker at industry forums across the globe such as NACS, NACS Insight Convenience Summit, Global Shop, Euro Shop and IGDS among many others and his work has led to numerous international design awards with many of his projects having been published in Visual Merchandising and Store Design, Chain Store Age Executive and DDI to name a few.
